Amazon slips to 4th in global shopping app installs amid rise of international brand
U.S. e-commerce market leader, Amazon’s position in the market is well documented, and the brand is a household name. But the latest global league table for ecommerce app installations show the probability of newer fresher apps to knock Amazon off their perch and take that highly coveted number 1 spot.
According to Apptopia, the tech juggernaut ranked fourth globally in ecommerce app installations throughout 2021, and they topped the worldwide ranking last year, according to Apptopia’s measurements.
Things have now changed with Amazon now no longer being the global top dog. Other apps have now taken its place:
Shopee, based in Singapore, which serves Southeast Asia and Latin America; Shein, based in China, a leader in online fashion retail and Meesho, an Indian app, which specializes in e-commerce across fashion and home products.
Amazon remains number 1 in Apptopia’s U.S. rankings in 2021, but they have seemingly lost ground in international markets.
Responding to regulators Amazon executives have states that the company’s small share of the global online and offline retail markets because of limitations they face with regard to antitrust laws.
Back home in the US, Amazon is expected to account for more than 40% of e-commerce sales across the US in 2021.
